UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham indicates at the Labour Party conference that Tehran has "played a part" in the security incident arrests at an American-run air base in England's Gloucestershire, though Iran's foreign minister and its embassy in Britain have both issued denial of any involvement.

Burnham confirms both UK and US officials are looking into how and why five British men, all in their 20s, were near the perimetre of the facility late at night.

He says, "There is indeed a strong indication that Iran played a part. This remains, though, a complex and very serious police investigation, so I can't say any more at this stage. We have been waiting to confirm what we could say. But we can now confirm our belief that Iran played a part. I will update people more in due course."

Burnham says: "Well at this stage, there is not an urgent need to do that but should that arise, of course, I wouldn't hesitate."

The suspects, initially detained on suspicion of "explosives and terrorism offences" for driving vans heading to the base, have been released on police bail on Monday.

In Washington, US President Donald Trump says the United Kingdom did release the men that they caught "wanting to blow up a base," saying he's satisfied with the UK authorities' response.

Trump tells reporters the US is "studying it very hard" and will know more details of the case.
