The Increasing Gale or Storm Signal, No. 9, is in force.
Severe Typhoon Noul has weakened into a typhoon.
At 6 a.m., Noul was centred about 80 kilometres northeast of Hong Kong Observatory and is forecast to move northwest or north-northwest at about 15 kilometres per hour crossing inland Guangdong.
Locally, gales are affecting many places with occasional storm force winds offshore and over high ground.
Heavy squally showers associated with Noul are affecting Hong Kong. In the past hour, around 30 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over eastern part of the New Territories.
With Noul moving into inland Guangdong and weakening progressively, the Observatory will issue the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 at 7:10 a.m. Local winds are expected to become southwesterlies gradually. Areas which were previously sheltered may become exposed.
