A former department head at the Chinese University's medical centre is being charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption over alleged fraud and the disclosure of the identity of a person being investigated.
Another former senior staff is also being charged.
The pair will appear in court tomorrow.
61-year-old Lau Mun-cheung, a former head of sports medicine and rehabilitation centre of the CUHK Medical Centre, was previously responsible for managing some 20 physiotherapists.
This as the ICAC received complaints from the medical centre in August last year suspecting certain staff members have submitted bogus service records and defrauded the facility by claiming fees.
The anti-graft body's investigation indicated that Lau was suspected of telling the medical centre he offered treatments and other professional services to patients between July 2021 and September 2025, in an attempt to get the facility to pay him fees.
It was later revealed Lau instructed various physiotherapists to offer such services to patients, before recording their work under his name.
Over the course of the investigation, Lau was revealed to have disclosed to two administrative members at the rehabilitation centre that he was the target of the probe.
He then instructed four administrative members at the centre and two physiotherapists to mislead the ICAC, refuse interview invitations and destroy relevant evidence.
Lau currently faces six charges including fraud, disclosure of the identity of a person being investigated, as well as perverting the course of justice.
Meanwhile, Tang Lai-ting, the centre's former human resources head, is being charged with one count of disclosing the identity of the subject of an investigation after she was suspected of notifying Lau of his involvement in the ICAC probe.
The two are granted bail and will appear in the Shatin Magistrates' Courts on Wednesday.
