Salt water pipe bursts in Tsuen Wan; flushing water still unavailable this morning

A salt water pipe burst on Yeung Uk Road in Tsuen Wan last night. Most residential and commercial premises in the area and in Kwai Chung still have no flushing water this morning. The Water Supplies Department said the repair work is more difficult than expected.

A large number of workers are carrying out emergency repairs on site, and need to excavate the road surface to replace the pipe.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. last night opposite a petrol station on Yeung Uk Road, involving a 900 mm diameter underground salt water pipe that burst.

The Water Supplies Department dispatched staff to close the valves on several main water supply trunks. Flushing water was suspended in most parts of Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung, affecting residential and commercial premises.

The Department noted that because the repair work is more difficult than expected, adjustments to the water supply scheduling are also required. The target is to complete the repairs by 9 p.m. tonight.
