Chief Executive John Lee has warmly congratulated the successful launch of Shenzhou-23. As Hong Kong was delighted to see the first Hong Kong payload specialist Lai Ka-ying take off for the mission, Chief Executive John Lee also watched the live broadcast of the Shenzhou-23 launch. He extended his highest respect and sincere blessings to all crew members. He emphasized that this mission was extremely significant, being both the first manned flight mission during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period and the first time a payload specialist from the Hong Kong SAR participated, making all Hong Kong citizens feel excited and proud. Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong, who witnessed the launch at the space centre, said Hong Kong will continue to contribute its innovative and technological strength. Sun said: “When the spacecraft soared into the sky, I felt extremely excited, with a sense of pride as a Chinese person. I believe this is not just the success of a single flight mission, but also a significant microcosm of our country's leap forward in technological strength. With Dr. Lai Ka-ying, a payload specialist from Hong Kong, on board, this honour is even more profound. I believe this is a perfect demonstration of Hong Kong's practical action in integrating into and serving the overall national strategy, contributing Hong Kong's innovation and technology strength.” Sun indicated that the Hong Kong SAR government will invest more resources in the future, hoping to cultivate more "Lai Ka-yings". Sun said: “I believe this successful launch is also an excellent educational opportunity. I hope every young person in Hong Kong can see the power of dreams. The government will continue to create more opportunities for our youth to engage in innovation and technology development. I look forward to seeing more young people from Hong Kong in the vast expanse of space in the future.”
