A fire broke out in a subdivided flat in Man Yuan House in Yau Ma Tei late Thursday night. Firefighters found a charred body inside the unit; the deceased was a 69-year-old man. Four others were injured and taken to the hospital. Approximately 300 people were evacuated. Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, but preliminary investigations suggest no suspicious circumstances. The fire started in a high-rise unit of Man Yuan House. The building was under renovation, and the flames were clearly visible even through the scaffolding and netting. Firefighters set up a ladder truck to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading. Some residents were unwell but conscious and were carried to ambulances on stretchers. Police received a report of a fire from the building's security guard around 11 p.m. on Thursday. A charred body was eventually found inside the unit. The fire was extinguished around midnight. At first glance, the exterior wall mesh appeared unaffected. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.
