Hong Kong astronauts may soon be heading into space.

At the Global Prosperity Summit, academics discuss Hong Kong's role in the aerospace industry as the national "15th Five-Year Plan" calls for the development of space economy.

On the second day of the summit, Gao Yang, Co-Director of Space Science and Technology Institute at HKUST, says she supports the Hong Kong government to consider aerospace as an important part of its "Five-Year Plan."

She says the city can take this opportunity to leverage its advantages in scientific research and innovation, especially in the field of "AI+" aerospace, as well as its advantages in law and finance.

But some scholars say Hong Kong lacks talent in related fields.

Regina Ip, Chairperson of Savantas Policy Institute which co-hosted the conference, says Hong Kong should actively participate in the development of aerospace technology from multiple perspectives.
