The Housing Authority launched a reward scheme for reporting public housing abuse early last year, and as of March this year, it had received 5,400 real name reports.

Responding to a written inquiry from a legislator, Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho says of those reports, about 900 could be further pursued, with 25 substantiated cases.

The investigation periods for these cases range from three to eight months, depending on the complexity of the case.

Cases involving false income reporting or overseas properties require information from other departments and take more time to investigate.
