President Xi Jinping holds welcome ceremony for Vladimir Putin

President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Russian President Vladimir Putin outside the Great Hall of the People in Beijing this morning. Putin is on a state visit to China.

After Xi shoke hands with Putin, the two leaders introduced their senior officials to one another.

They include Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russia’s deputy prime ministers and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The national anthems of both countries were played, and a 21-gun salute was fired.

Xi and Putin jointly reviewed the guard of honor of the People's Liberation Army.

The two leaders then held bilateral talks at the Great Hall of the People to discuss bilateral relations, cooperation in trade, energy, and other fields, as well as international and regional issues of common concern. 

A joint statement will be issued later. 

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia, and also Putin's 25th visit to China.
