President Xi Jinping held talks with US President Donald Trump at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday, following a welcome ceremony.

Trump is on a three day state visit to China.

Xi emphasised that the interests between China and the US outweigh their differences; cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both. They should work together to achieve mutual success.

Trump said he is looking forward to "big discussion" with President Xi.

Trump said: “You and I have known each other now for a long time, the longest relationship of our two country that any president to president has had, as to me an honor, we had fantastic relationship, we've got along.”

Xi said: “Yesterday, our economic and trade teams produced generally balanced and positive outcomes. This is good news for the people of the two countries and the world."

Xi Jinping said he expects 2026 to be a "historic, landmark year" that opens up a new chapter in China-U.S. relations.

Success in one is an opportunity for the other, and a stable bilateral relationship is good for the world, Xi added.
