President Donald Trump says he plans to focus on trade, not war during high-stakes summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as he departs for Beijing on Tuesday.

As he left the White House, Trump downplayed differences with the Chinese leader over the conflict in Iran, predicting "good things are going to happen" during his visit.

Trump told reporters that he doesn't "need any help" with Iran and that there are other items on the agenda to discuss. "We have a lot of things to discuss. I wouldn't say Iran is one of them, to be honest with you, because we have Iran very much under control. We're either going to make a deal or they're going to be decimated. So one way or the other, we win," Trump said.

Speaking of Xi personally, Trump said he is "a friend of mine. He's been somebody that we get along with."

"And I think you're going see that good things are going to happen. This is going to be a very exciting trip. A lot of good things are gonna happen," Trump said.
