Despite Trump's imminent China trip, the US government announced sanctions against four Hong Kong-based companies. That's for having allegedly aided Iran's shipment of oil to China. The US Treasury blacklisted three people and nine companies, including four based in Hong Kong and four in the United Arab Emirates and one in Oman. They were said to have helped Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sell and ship its allotment of Iranian oil to China using front companies. Earlier, the US also sanctioned three Chinese companies for allegedly providing satellite images to assist Iran's military actions. Beijing says it resolutely opposes the move, saying the priority now is to prevent the escalation of the conflict instead of using the war to smear other countries.
