Two former Chinese defense ministers, Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu, were sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve over graft charges.

All their personal properties will be confiscated.

72-year-old Wei Fenghe served as the Minister of National Defense from 2018 to 2023.

He was succeeded by Li Shangfu, who was removed from office within a year.

An aerospace engineer, Li Shangfu worked in the People's Liberation Army's Xichang Satellite Launch Centre since 1982, having overseen multiple rocket launch missions before he moved to serve as the deputy director at the PLA General Armaments Department.

In mid-2024, he was expelled from the Chinese Communist Party following corruption charges.
