A plan to take the MV Hondius to Spain's Canary Islands may have hit the rocks. The leader of the Spanish islands is saying "no" to the Dutch ship's entrance.

Meanwhile, an isolation area is being set up in Cape Verde for the cruise ship that carried passengers infected with hantavirus. This comes two days after three onboard died and three others fell ill.

Only a few have been allowed to disembark the cruise ship MV Hondius sitting off the coast of Cape Verde where suspected hantavirus has been detected.

National director of health of Cape Verde Angela Gomes, says an isolation area has been set up and a team of medical professionals have gathered to support the 84 passengers and 61 crew members trapped on the ship.

Four passengers were removed from the boat as of Wednesday morning.

Another man reportedly infected onboard has retuned to Zurich and is being treated, the Swiss government confirms.

A passenger currently on board says they're not in quarantine but are being told by the World Health Organization to keep their distance from each other.

She furthers that the atmosphere is relatively good given the circumstance, with some passengers wearing masks.

The cruise ship has been waiting for help off the coast of Cape Verde in the Atlantic Ocean since Monday after three passengers died and at least three others left seriously ill in a suspected outbreak of the rare hantavirus.

The Dutch ship was on a weekslong polar cruise from Argentina to Antarctica.

It remains unclear how an outbreak could've started, and the WHO said it was investigating the situation.

While the Spanish government had earlier offered to let the ship dock at the Canary Islands, the local government is saying "no" to the plan, and its leader said the islands have not been given enough information.
