The government will gazette amendments on Friday to open up parts of the Frontier Closed Area at Mai Po and Lin Ma Hang in Sha Tau Kok.

Mai Po is a nature reserve well-known for its variety of birds.

The Security Bureau says the amendment will remove the Mai Po marsh area from the frontier closed area boundary.

The public will only need to apply for access from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and will no longer be required to obtain a closed area permit from the police.

Following the setup of Robin's Nest Country Park, the government has already opened the specified Frontier Closed Area section there in January last year on an exemption basis.

The latest policy will turn that into a permanent arrangement, allowing the public to travel in and out of Lin Ma Hang in Sha Tau Kok on green minibuses.

The two amendments will be tabled at LegCo on May 13th and aim to take effect on July 24th.
