The White House was briefly locked down Monday after authorities shot an armed man in the Washington Monument. President Donald Trump was nearby hosting a business event when the incident occurred. Vice President JD Vance's motorcade drove by the Washington Monument moments before the shooting. Crowds rush from the scene where a man was spotted carrying a gun. Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn said plainclothes agents spotted and approached the unidentified man. He attempted to flee and then fired at the officers who returned fire. The alleged gunman was transported to a local hospital. No details were given on his condition. A youngster caught in the crossfire was sent to hospital with minor injuries. The White House was briefly locked down as authorities investigated the incident. President Donald Trump was holding a small business event at the time and continued without interruption. The Secret Service did not indicate if the incident was related to the president and or the vice president. The incident drew a large police presence, coming just over a week after a gunman tried to storm the White House Correspondents' Association dinner with guns and knives.
