The mainland's "travel with films" campaign is fuelling a craze in cultural tourism during the May Day holiday.

A bullet train from Shenyang, provincial capital of northeastern Liaoning, to Beijing featured a mobile movie salon, offering themed headscarves and a selection of films for passengers.

Movie "The Great Wall" directed by Zhang Yimou and other hits are influencing travellers to tour around the sites in person and experience unique local customs and cultures.

In this film and television-themed Guoliang Village nestled in the awe-inspiring scenery of Taihang mountains in Henan Province, immersive historical plays are regularly staged at a cliffside settlement and visitors are invited to get a taste of filmmaking firsthand.

On Friday, a spectacle of 5,000 drones that took to the skies captivated thoudsands of revellers in Chongqing, where over 500 films have been shot in recent years.

The city has curated nine themed tourism routes and devised distinctive cultural activities to create film-plus consumption experiences.
