Government announces tax waiver for Wang Fuk Court residents

Today marks the final day of the first homecoming phase for Wang Fuk Court residents.
This as the government announced that property owners and residents of the housing estate will be waived from the final tax payable for the 2025/26 year of assessment in a bid to relieve them of some financial pressure.
Residents of Wang Tai House and Wang Shing House continued to return to their homes in batches to retrieve valuable items as the first round of home visits drew to a close.
This woman said she returned home to collect as many of her paintings as possible, since she spent decades using her brush to seal the countless memories of her travels.
While this man said he managed to retrieve seven carts full of items, mostly consisting of furniture.
But not all were able to recollect their belongings with ease.
This woman said her home was completely devastated and that her safe was badly damaged, adding that she will need time to open it to retrieve the precious watches and jewellery stored inside.
In a bid to relieve affected residents of some financial burden, the government announced that they will be waived from the final tax payable for the 2025/26 year of assessment.
This as Chan Sze-wai, the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, said authorities are currently unable to measure the scheme's impact on local taxation.
