The Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the International Astronomical Union is being held in Hong Kong for the first time. The event is taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. It is attended by over 500 scientists, space experts, Nobel laureates, and Shaw Prize winners from the Chinese Mainland, the United States, Japan, and other countries and regions. The meeting agenda includes discussions on space sustainability, space debris management, light pollution, and other issues, with the goal of reaching consensus and establishing cooperation mechanisms for space development in the Asia-Pacific region. A "Hong Kong Astronomy Outreach Convention" is also being held concurrently, with over 1,000 schools from across Hong Kong participating.
