Financial Secretary says strongest quarterly growth in nearly 5-year period

Financial Secretary Paul Chan said Hong Kong's GDP in the first quarter has recorded the strongest growth in a nearly five-year period.

Writing on his weekly blog, Chan said the growth was helped by spending increase in the retail and food and beverage market, recording a 5.2 percent year-on-year rise. Spending at non-fast food restaurants also increased by nearly 8 percent.

Meanwhile, Chan said the number of tourists visiting Hong Kong in the first quarter exceeded 14.3 million, 
which broke the quarterly record since the pandemic.
