Britain's King Charles III addressed the US Congress on Tuesday, highlighting the bond between the two countries at a time of political turmoil. He and Queen Camilla were later greeted by the first couple at the White House state dinner. In his address to Congress marking 250 years of American independence, King Charles III repeatedly stressed the historical and cultural ties that he said have cemented an enduring bond between the US and the United Kingdom. The Monarch delivered a series of remarks warning against isolationism, urging American leaders to remain globally engaged. "I pray with all my heart that our alliance will continue to defend our shared values with our partners in Europe and the Commonwealth and across the world, and, and that we ignore the clarion calls to become ever more inward-looking," says Charles. He also called for resolve in supporting Ukraine and defending the NATO alliance, noting that transatlantic bonds cannot rely solely on past achievements. Later in the day, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted the royal couple at the White House for the state dinner. During the banquet, Trump said that Charles did not want Iran to have nuclear weapons, though the king did not comment.
