In the US, a wildfire that has destroyed more than 100 homes in southeast Georgia triggered more evacuations Friday as the blaze threatened a wider area. In Enid, Oklahoma, residents are picking up after a powerful tornado damaged dozens of homes.

The US Justice Department has ended its criminal probe into Fed chair Jerome Powell, a move likely to clear the way for the confirmation of Powell's successor. The probe was dropped after a key Republican made clear he wouldn't let the nomination advance unless the probe was ended.
