US President Donald Trump said when meeting Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors to the United States that the two sides have agreed to prolong the ceasefire with Hezbollah by three weeks. The second round of US-brokered negotiations between Israel and Lebanan unfolded at the White House on Thursday. Trump said the talks were progressing smoothly, pledging Washington would aid the Lebanese government to deter threats from Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. The US president also noted that Israel and Lebanon have agreed on a three-week extension of ceasefire and that the two countries are likely to reach a peace deal by the end of this year. Trump said, "We had a great meeting with the very high officials of Lebanon and very high officials of Israel. They've agreed to an additional three weeks of, I guess no firing, ceasefire, no more firing. Let's see, we hope that happens." According to Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun will visit Washington in the next few weeks. Citing a Lebanese official, Reuters reported the two sides' objective for the next phase include promoting the withdrawal of Israeli forces, release of Lebanese held captive by Israel as well as marking the countries' land boundary. As their temporary 10-day ceasefire is due to expire this Sunday, an ambassdor-level meeting was originally scheduled for Thursday, yet Israeli air raids continued in southern Lebanon on the same day. At least three people were killed and two others, including a child, injured in the attacks. Hezbollah retaliated by launching rockets into north of Israel for its breach of the creasefire agreement. Israeli military said they intercepted several rockets fired by Hezbollah Thursday night, no casualties were reported. Data released by Lebanon's disaster risk management department showed Israeli attacks has caused over 2,400 deaths and more than 7,000 injuries in Lebanon since March 2nd.
