Hong Kong's composite Consumer Price Index rose 1.7 percent in March, larger than the average rate of increase in January and February.

The government explained this was mainly due to the sharp rise in international oil prices caused by the Middle East conflict, which accelerated the price increase of fuel-related items.

Price for medical services saw the largest increase, rising by 10.8 percent year-on-year, followed by electricity, gas and water, and transportation and education services, all rising by 3.9 percent.

The government said it has introduced short-term targeted measures to address rising fuel prices and will continue to closely monitor developments.
