Residents of fire damaged Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po continued to collect their belongings in shifts from their units. Today is the turn of residents of Wang Cheong House, one of the buildings most severely affected by the fire. Authorities said they would provide them with special support. Wang Cheong House was the first of the eight buildings to catch fire and suffered the most severe damage, with 81 deaths, second only to Wang Tai House. The first to go upstairs were the residents on the lowest five floors. Warner Cheuk, Deputy Secretary for Administration said, for those residents: “All residents were accompanied by a police officer. Secondly, for units with fatalities, each household was accompanied by a social welfare department clinical psychologist and social worker throughout the process.” Some residents from ten floors of Wang Yan House went to collect their belongings on the same day. Cheuk said: “Two weeks ago, I mentioned that nearly 400 residents had expressed to their social worker that they hoped to have another opportunity to go back their units. As of yesterday, this number has increased to approximately 600, and we will actively make arrangements.”
