A chemical leak at a US West Virginia silver recovery plant leaves two dead, according to reports. About 30 workers are also sent to hospital, including one in serious condition, says West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey at an evening news conference. Kanawha County Commission Emergency Management Director CW Sigman says the leak occurred at the Catalyst Refiners plant in Institute as workers were preparing to shut down at least part of the facility, A shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area was lifted more than five hours after the incident occurred. Governor Morrisey believes the local air quality and water supply were unaffected. The plant is located near Institute, a community 16 kilometres west of Charleston, the state capital.
