Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's planned visit to Eswatini was cancelled after three African countries revoked overflight permits for his aircraft.

Beijing praises nations that denied overflight rights for Lai.

Lai Ching-te had been due to embark on a six-day visit to the southern African kingdom but the night before the expected start, Taipei said his visit had to be delayed.

Taipei said Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar had revoked permission for Lai's aircraft to fly over their territories.

Zhang Han, a spokesperson for Beijing's Taiwan Affairs Office, expressed appreciation for the three African countries' denial of airspace access and practice in adhering to the one-China principle.
