It's the last day for Wang Sun House residents to return to their units to collect what's left of their former abodes at Wang Fuk Court. While access has been extended to those living on higher floors, many elderly residents relied on their children to help retrieve belongings at their fire-ravaged homes. Day 3 for Wang Sun House residents to collect their belongings. It's the turn for those who resided on the 20th floor and above. Many carried backpacks -- some with hiking sticks. Others brought flowers. For many, their wish is to recover the most valuable possessions. Ms. Wong from the 24th floor says she hoped to retrieve her gold and silver jewellery, her wedding photos and rings -- and her cat's ashes which were stored in a stainless steel container with a melting point of over 1,500 degrees. Another resident here was from the 25th floor. She says she might not able to bring her piano and cello back, which had accompanied her since childhood. 83-year-old Mrs. Leung, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 40 years, was unable to go upstairs and could only wait for updates from her family. She hopes to retrieve family photos and passports, noting if she were decades younger, she would have gone up herself, but now she feared she wouldn't be able to come back down. Some residents went upstairs on behalf of their parents, spending over an hour collecting items. Mr. Lam, a resident from the 24th floor, says their gold items and wedding photos were intact, but neighbouring units had been reduced to ashes. This upper-floor resident, meanwhile, hopes the government can allow them to return one more time. The three-day window for Wang Sun House residents to collect their belongings ends on Wednesday. From Thursday, phase two begins, covering the more severely damaged Wang Cheong House, as well as Wang Tao House and Wang Yan House. Wang Tai House, Wang Kin House and Wang Shing House will be the last to reopen. Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing also visited the site today to inspect the situation.
