US-Iran ceasefire extends as Iran vows military response against naval blockade

U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he will extend the two-week ceasefire with Iran that was set to expire on Wednesday night. 

Trump shared on Truth Social that the decision came upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, as well as taking into consideration the current state of the Iranian government.

"We have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal," he says, and will hold off until discussions conclude after the Iranians submit their proposal.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X Tuesday that the US' continued blockade of Iranian ports, attacking Iranian merchant ships and detaining crew members are acts of war and a violation of the ceasefire. 

Mehdi Mohammadi, an advisor to Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, shares similar sentiments, calling the ceasefire extension meaningless and a way for Trump to " buy time for a surprise attack."
