The Independent Committee on the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po held its second hearing of the third round. The hearing continued at the City Gallery in Central, with testimonies from Labour Department staff, including Ms Lam Shauching, then a district occupational safety officer at the Labour Department, responsible for minor renovation and maintenance works. Between 2024 and the fire, there were complaints from branch offices regarding Wang Fuk Court. In her testimony, she mentioned that due to the increased number of complaints before the fire, they inspected Wang Fuk Court almost every month, conducting a total of 17 inspections, one of which was a surprise inspection. Lam acknowledged the complaint regarding workers smoking on duty. However, after a precinct inspection, no workers were found smoking on site, and no cigarette butts or flammable materials were found at the location in question. She believed there were sufficient fire extinguishers, therefore the complaint was unfounded, and no follow-up action was taken.
