Macao's Secretary for Economy and Finance Tai Kin-ip has resigned, citing personal reasons.
His resignation was approved by the State Council, though a successor has yet to be named.
Tai made his last public appearance at a tourism expo last Friday.
In a statement, he said he had earlier submitted his resignation to the Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai over personal reasons.
He expressed gratitude to the central government and to Sam for their trust and support during his tenure.
Sam thanked Tai for his contribution in driving fresh progress in Macao's economy and finances.
In the meantime, Sam will take up the role until a new appointee is inaugurated.
The 57-year-old Macao native joined the government before the handover, and spent many years at the Economic and Technological Development Bureau.
