Xia Baolong gave speech on National Security Education Day

Today is National Security Education Day. Xia Baolong, head of Beijing's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, delivered a speech via video link at a ceremony this morning.

Xia said security is the cornerstone of Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and that a high level of security safeguards Hong Kong's transition from good governance to prosperity.

He said security is dynamic, and security at a particular time does not mean permanent security.

He said those with ulterior motives are attempting to politicise the Wang Fuk Court fire disaster and disrupt Hong Kong, and “we must remain vigilant at all times.”

Chief Executive John Lee and Zhou Ji, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, also delivered speeches on national security.

April 15 each year is designated as National Security Education Day, which aims at raising the public awareness of national security.
