Hungarian voters have ousted long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orban after 16 years in power.

Peter Magyar will be Hungary's new leader. And the winning side, the Tisza party celebrated on Sunday night, performing a dance on stage which has gone viral.

Zsolt Hegedus, a politician from the winning Tisza party, danced in front of hundreds of thousands of people while celebrating his party's election victory in Budapest.

Hegedus was elected member of the National Assembly in 2026 and has been nominated to serve as minister of health in Peter Magyar's new government.

Orban's defeat has reverberated across the world, including in the US where President Donald Trump supported Orban's re-election bid and even dispatched US Vice President JD Vance to Budapest last week to support the incumbent.

Magyar's victory could signal a shift in European politics that has been dominated by a far-right shift over the past decade, according to analysts.

Magyer comes from a right-wing background but has distanced himself from Orban's leadership.
