Premier Li Qiang addressed the tension in the Middle East during talks with Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is in Beijing for a visit from April 12 to 14.

China has been the UAE's largest trading partner for many years. And the UAE is China's largest export market and second largest trading partner in the Middle East.

Premier Li told Sheikh Khaled that Beijing is ready to further play a constructive role and contribute to the restoration of peace and tranquility in the Gulf region.

Li pointed to China's close communication with relevant parties and active peacemaking efforts since the Iran conflict broke out, and urged the UAE to continue to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions and projects in the country.

China's top diplomat Wang Yi held talks with the UAE president's special envoy, Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, who is accompanying the crown prince on the visit.

Wang made clear that blocking the Strait of Hormuz is not in the common interests of the international community, according to a ministry statement.

Wang said China understood the Gulf Arab nations' legitimate security concerns, stating "Achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire through political and diplomatic means is the fundamental way to resolve the issue."
