TIA revokes licenses of Star Link travel Ltd suspected of forced shopping

The Travel Industry Authority (TIA) revoked the licenses of Star Link Travel Limited and a tour guide suspected of forcing mainland tour groups to shop.

The TIA stated that it launched investigations into 4 cases and found that the travel agents involved failed to ensure that tour participants would not be coerced into shopping when receiving mainland tour groups in the first three months of this year.

The investigation also found that the tour guide involved threatened tourists who did not make purchases last month.

The TIA believes that the inaction of the travel agents and the remarks of the tour guide seriously violated the licensing requirements and severely damaged the reputation of Hong Kong's tourism industry.
