The international community mostly welcomed the two-week ceasefire deal reached between the US and Iran. In Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said China will continue to play a constructive role in facilitating regional peace in the Middle East. A sigh of relief heard around the world as Iran and the US reached a two-week-long ceasefire -- a move that was welcomed by Beijing. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China has always advocated for a prompt ceasefire and the resolution of conflicts through diplomatic means. She noted that Beijing has done its part to realise long-term peace in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. When asked about US President Donald Trump's earlier remarks about China urging Iran to enter into negotiations, the spokesperson noted that Foreign Minister Wang Yi has made at least 26 phone calls to relevant parties of the war in hopes of achieving peace. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the ceasefire, and called upon all conflicting parties to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire. Governments around the world also shared the positive sentiment. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara described the ceasefire as a major development that helps to lower tensions in the region. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, "This is very positive, and we hope that it leads to a permanent de-escalation and an end to the conflict, and a resolution that allows the world to go forward."
