The operator of a nuclear power station in Japan's Fukushima says it has suspended the cooling of water in a fuel storage pool due to an issue with a pump.

The problem occured at the Daini plant, which is undergoing decommissioning work.

The complex is located some 12 kilometres south of the Daiichi plant, which suffered reactor meltdowns because of the 2011 major earthquake and tsunami.

Tokyo Electric Power Company says an alarm went off at the Daini plant to warn about abnormality with the pump that circulates cooling water for the storage pool at the No.1 reactor.

The company says it is trying to identify the cause of the problem while expediting work to resume the cooling function.
