Vietnam has attracted many Chinese people to invest in the country. Some businessmen say the cost of doing business in Vietnam is significantly lower than the cost in mainland China. In 1986, Vietnam launched a series of reforms known as Doi Moi, which brought a profound transformation to the country. In recent years, a growing number of Chinese started their businesses in Vietnam. Mr Lai has been running this bar in Hanoi since 2019. Originally from Guangzhou, Lai said operating a bar in Vietnam would be about 20 or 30 percent cheaper than in mainland China. Lai said the average consumer spending stand between a hundred and two hundred Hong Kong dollars, which is comparable to the mainland. Therefore, he sees potential in the Vietnamese F&B market. "If you open a Hong Kong style restaurant here, it will be popular because locals like the flavours," Lai said. A Hong Kong sports equipment manufacturer said those who wish to start their business in Vietnam should be aware of the laws and regulations of the country. She also hopes the Hong Kong government could establish an Economic and Trade Office in Vietnam to support overseas enterprises.
