Financial Secretary Paul Chan said stock trading remained active despite global uncertainties.

In March, the average daily turnover exceeded 300 billion dollars, marking an 8 percent rise year-on-year.

Amid volatility brought by the Middle East conflicts, the finance chief said Hong Kong economy showed resilience in Q1 of this year.

Writing on his weekly blog, Paul Chan noted that while the Hang Seng index dropped by 2 percent, the average daily turnover for the first two months exceeded 260 billion dollars, which is a 17 percent hike compared to last year.

The initial public offering or IPO market also saw a surge in activity.

As of March 27, it raised at least 103 billion dollars, ranking first in the world.
