British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper condemned Iranian strikes and called for diplomatic and economic pressure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This as representatives from more than 40 countries gathered to discuss solutions to resume shipping in the crucial waterway. Speaking to British media about Iranian attacks in its neighbouring region, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper slammed Tehran for what she called conducting "reckless strikes". She added that Iran's attacks on international shipping has affected countries all across the globe. We had over 40 countries from every continent come together in support of the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and also the crucial principle of freedom of navigation. Because Iran's reckless strikes are attacking international shipping, seeking to hijack the global economy. That's affecting petrol prices and mortgage rates here in the UK, but also jet fuel across the world -- fertiliser to Africa and also gas to Asia. The UK said diplomats from participating countries will cooperate with the International Maritime Organisation to ensure that the first stranded vessels in the strait can depart from the region. Representatives from the US, however, were noticeably absent from the meeting -- US President Donald Trump said securing the Strait of Hormuz is "not America's job". Trump had also criticised Washington's European allies for failing to assist the US in its war and threatened to pull his country out of the NATO alliance.
