Many citizens are leaving Hong Kong by rail for the mainland through various ports for the Easter and Ching Ming Festival long holidays. Due to the sharp rise in fuel surcharges for passenger planes, many are choosing to travel to the mainland by high-speed rail. The Immigration Department expects that today will be the peak day for land outbound travel, with an estimated 712,000 passenger trips. The High Speed Rail Station in West Kowloon was already packed with people around 7:00 AM. MTR reminds passengers to allow sufficient time for immigration procedures.
