Some Chinese academics and analysts believe US President Donald Trump gave his latest speech as a means to give the military a "way out" and reduce American losses in the war.

This as a Chinese resident in Iran said Trump's words have contributed nothing to ending the conflict.

Mr. Yin, who has lived in Iran for the past 15 years, briefly returned to China in February to spend time with his family, but was unable to make his way back to Iran when the conflict ignited earlier this year.

Having listened to US President Donald Trump's latest speech, Yin and his wife of Iranian-descent said the couple and their friends share the same sentiment towards the Trump.

He called the speech void of meaning -- stressing that Washington seemingly lacks any new strategies to defeat Iran.

He noted that the Iranian people have learned to observe Trump's actions instead of listening to his words.

Some academics believe Trump's speech aimed to adjust Washington's earlier approach to the war, with the new strategy requiring the US to abandon its goal of capturing the Strait of Hormuz in hopes of reducing further losses.

Han Jianwei, a researcher in Middle Eastern studies in the Shanghai International Studies University, said US troops might be mired in a prolonged conflict similar to the Vietnam War if they are deployed to the Strait of Hormuz.

She further said Trump's actions are indicative of his methods -- creating chaos and leaving the rest of the world to deal with the mess.

Regarding the US president's expectation to resolve the conflict within two to three weeks, the mainland-based scholar believe it is merely wishful thinking, as the Israelis desire to continue the war.

According to Han, Tel Aviv's primary objective is to eliminate Iran as a threat, but the goal has yet to be achieved.

She added that Trump is, to a certain extent, held hostage by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, noting that the US is struck in a trap and is unlikely to escape anytime soon.

Han predicted the war will continue for at least another half a year, and Trump's visit to China could be further delayed.
