U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said that preparations for President Donald Trump's visit to China are progressing well.

U.S. President Donald Trump was originally scheduled to visit China at the end of last month to meet with President Xi Jinping, but the trip was postponed to May due to the war in Iran. Greer said in response to questions on Tuesday that he had not heard of the discussions of postponement from within the government or from the Beijing authorities.

He said Trump's plan to visit China and meet with Xi is progressing well. He noted that both the United States and China want stability, and he expects trade relations between the two countries to be stable in the coming year.

Greer and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Chinese officials in Paris, France last month to discuss preparations for the China-U.S. summit.

Greer said that the meeting has reached a basic consensus on the results of the summit that the two countries hope to achieve, and the staff of both sides are communicating regularly to seek to achieve the results, so there's no need to hold a meeting with Beijing again.

But that's different from what White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said a day earlier that it is expected that U.S. cabinet officials will go to China to meet with Chinese officials before the China-U.S. summit.

Trump announced earlier that after rescheduling, he will visit China from May 14 to 15 to meet with President Xi Jinping, and will invite Xi and China's First Lady Peng Liyuan to visit the United States later this year.

China has not confirmed the date of Trump's visit to China, only saying that the head of state's diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic leading role in Sino-U.S. relations, and China and the United States have maintained communication on Trump's visit to China.

If Trump makes his trip this time, it will be his second visit to China after eight and a half years, and it will also be his first time since returning to the White House.
