Housing Bureau and HKU join forces to overhaul housing projects with innovative technologies

The Housing Bureau partnered with the University of Hong Kong to promote innovative construction tech in public housing, signing a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise the collaboration. Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho and HKU President Zhang Xiang signed the MOU, committing to deepen future collaborations. The government promised to give priority to HKU's research for upcoming public works. Meanwhile, the University is exploring various research paths to overhaul construction workflows. They include using blockchain to ensure the quality of Modular Integrated Construction or MiC projects. Zhang Xiang said, "We are not only contribute to Hong Kong's industry and housing project, improve the living conditions of Hong Kong citizens, but we also contribute to our motherland as well." The housing chief described the partnership as a "win-win," as it provides HKU with a sandbox for their research, while upgrading the quality of public housing projects. Winnie Ho said, "Public housing by nature, involves large scale production, standardised design and high repetition. These characteristics make them an ideal experimental ground for the practical adoption and large scale application on new technology."
