The United Nations peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon said three peacekeepers have been killed in less than 24 hours. The peacekeeping mission known as UNIFIL did not say who was responsible for the deaths overnight and into Monday. JEAN-PIERRE LACROIX, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, United Nations said, "This morning, two Indonesian peacekeepers lost their lives in an explosion that hit the UNIFIL logistic convoy, destroying their vehicle near Bani Hayyan, Sector East. Two more peacekeepers were injured, one seriously. The origin of the explosion has not been determined. Yesterday, a peacekeeper of the Indonesian contingent was killed in an explosion inside the UNIFIL base in Ett Taibe, also in Sector East. Another peacekeeper was critically wounded and was evacuated to a hospital in Beirut." Lacroix said "all acts that endanger the peacekeepers must stop and all actors must adhere to their obligations to ensure the safety and security of the peace keepers at all times". Earlier in the briefing, spokesperson to the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric reported an incident from Saturday when Israeli forces fired warning shots at a UNIFIL convoy traveling near headquarters. Later in the day, the same convoy vehicle sustained minor damage after a shell fired from an IDF tank exploded 15 metres away from it.
