Two sailboats that went missing while carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba have arrived in Havana, days after they went incommunicado because of bad weather. The vessels carrying eight people departed from Isla Mujeres in southern Mexico on March 20 and then lost contact, fuelling concern in Mexico, Cuba and beyond. In a post on X Saturday morning, the Mexican navy said an aircraft spotted the boats 148 kilometres northwest of Havana and that a boat was on its way to provide help. The Friendship entered Havana Bay in the afternoon, where few people were waiting because of the unexpected arrival. The Tiger Moth followed half an hour behind. An increasing number of countries and aid organisations have sent shipments of aid to Cuba, as a US fuel blockade has caused crippling blackouts and has pushed the Caribbean nation to the brink of collapse.
