Amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres established a dedicated task force addressing the worsening situation at the Strait of Hormuz.

This as Iranian authorities stressed they will allow the safe passage of vessels carrying humanitarian cargo.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reiterated the strait must be opened, and called the waterway "the Strait of Trump".

An earlier report from Reuters indicated the CSCL Indian Ocean and CSCL Arctic Ocean, both Hong Kong-flagged vessels under Chinese shipping giant Cosco, were turned back after attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on Friday.

Both ships remain stuck in the Persian Gulf.

According to the Shanghai Securities Journal, a manager at Cosco claimed that all reports on the container ships' return to China are fake.

An earlier announcement by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps indicated that the strait has already been closed.

On Friday, Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, said his country will comply with the UN's request to speed up efforts allowing for the safe passage of ships carrying humanitarian cargo through the Strait of Hormuz.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has established a dedicated task force addressing the situation at the strait, with its main goal being the development of technical mechanisms designed to meet humanitarian needs in the area.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump once again called for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened.

They have to open up the Strait of Trump -- I mean, Hormuz.

Excuse me for this, I'm so sorry.

Such a terrible mistake.

The fake news will say 'he accidentally said' - No, there's no accidents with me.

Not too many.

In France, foreign ministers attending the G7 meeting on Friday were mostly focused on the situation in Iran.

According to the Associated Press, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio attempted to persuade other G7 members of Washington's war strategy in Iran, but most countries remain unconvinced.

The French said they will not get involved in the conflict militarily, and will continue seeking diplomatic solutions.

Canada and Germany both said they will help resolve the issue at the Strait of Hormuz once the conflict is over.
