Smoke was seen across Lebanon as Israel continued to trade fire with Hezbollah.

Lebanon's capital Beirut and the coastal city of Tyre were among the targets struck.

The Israeli military has called for mass evacuations and sent ground troops deeper into Lebanon.

Israel says it needs to establish a zone of control in the depopulated southern Lebanon to shield its own northern communities, which have faced daily rocket attacks since the Iran-backed militant Hezbollah group joined the wider war.

In Washington D.C., US President Donald Trump held his first Cabinet meeting since the start of the Iran war.

Asked whether he's sticking to a five-day delay to his plans to hold off on striking Iranian power plants unless the Strait of Hormuz was fully reopened, Trump initially said he didn't know. Trump later confirmed he will delay attacks on the Iranian energy sector by 10 days.

Meanwhile, a top Iranian diplomat said Iran is ready for any scenario in the war with the US and Israel and warns that any attempt by them of a ground invasion would be a "big mistake."

Ali Bahreini, the Iranian ambassador to UN institutions in Geneva, says Iran is winning and has forced the U.S. and Israel to back off their initial goals saying they're "reduced" now to trying to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for oil and other shipments.

Bahreini added Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, is "safe" and running the country.

Elsewhere, Pakistan said it was "striving for peace" between the US and Iran and was ready to host negotiations. Still, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry did not confirm whether talks would take place in Islamabad later this week.

At a weekly news briefing, ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said details on the timing, venue and itinerary would be shared in due course.
