Police have arrested a -year-old man suspected of impersonating an officer from the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and defrauding multiple victims in connection with 16 scam cases involving nearly 6 million dollars.

During the operation, police seized fake ICAC identification cards and counterfeit confidentiality orders purportedly from mainland Chinese authorities.

After investigations, officers identified and arrested the man in Cheung Sha Wan on Wednesday.

Probes revealed that the fraud syndicate pretended to be mainland law enforcement officers, claiming their targets had committed crimes and needed to pay a security deposit. The suspect would then appear as a fake ICAC officer, showing forged documents to earn the victims' trust. Victims were then duped into following instructions to transfer money.

The suspect remains in custody and will be charged with conspiracy to defraud.
