MTR fares to be frozen as adjustment formula falls short of trigger

MTR fares will not be adjusted this year under the fare adjustment mechanism.
This as the Census and Statistics Department says the transport sector's nominal wage index rose 3 percent year-on-year in December.
Alongside a 1.4 percent increase in the Composite Consumer Price Index and a 0.8 percent productivity factor, the MTR fare adjustment formula sees a supposed 1.4 percent price hike.
But the figure falls short of the 1.5 percent threshold required to trigger a fare change, so the fare will be frozen for another year.
